Need help with MasterPages and Proxies

I watched the video, and it seemed to suggest that you only need to use proxies if you are doing ajax stuff on the master page itself? Is this true? In other words if I have a master page that just contains static stuff, do I still need to put the ScriptManager on the master page and use proxies everywhere else?

What you've described is the typical scenario. You don't have to use Proxies unless you've included the ScriptManager in your MasterPage. You don't have to put the ScriptManager on the MasterPage unless you need to (or just want to)...
